Royal Caledon Air Force (RCAF)

Altitude with Attitude: A Second Life® Group of the Independent State of Caledon

I've just got my hands on the 1946 expansion. Anyone else out there with a copy that fancies a head to head or Co-op mission? I haven't played IL-2 for years so I'm completely rusty and a pushover in a dogfight!
I wonder if we could get an RCAF squadron together. The box says up to 128 players so we might just be able to squeeze everyone in ;-)

I found this on Amazon.com and it's currently in my shopping cart.

I think this would be a great alternative for us, especially in light of the current Openspace (void) sims mess.

I do not have the 1946 expansion, but I do have the rest of them. I just need to reinstall.

I had a scout around the various IL-2 forums and it looks like a new Battle of Britain sequel is due out next year based around a new engine with a 3rd party developer making a Korean War add on for it.
I think if this does take off we might think about using HyperLobby http://hyperfighter.sk/ to setup our own RCAF server.

Will we be able to use it without our own RCAF Server?

I'm thinking we should try it as a small group and see how we grow and maintain users

Yes there's no problem with one person hosting a game and the others joining in, other than it tends to slow the hosts computer a bit. The best solution is if someone has a spare computer and uses that to run the dedicated server version of the game http://www.fileplanet.com/173731/download/IL-2-Sturmovik:-1946-Dedi... It only needs to be run when we actually meet up.
By the way when you install IL-2 1946 you'll need to install the latest patch http://www.fileplanet.com/173730/170000/fileinfo/IL-2-Sturmovik:-19...

Is IL2:Sturmovik 1946 a stand alone product or an expansion pack? Regardless I would recommend getting the "Gold" package and Pacific Fighters. The Gold contains IL2FB and the ACES expansion pack. Gold and PF are $20USD a piece now.
