Royal Caledon Air Force (RCAF)

Altitude with Attitude: A Second Life® Group of the Independent State of Caledon

I've just got my hands on the 1946 expansion. Anyone else out there with a copy that fancies a head to head or Co-op mission? I haven't played IL-2 for years so I'm completely rusty and a pushover in a dogfight!
I wonder if we could get an RCAF squadron together. The box says up to 128 players so we might just be able to squeeze everyone in ;-)

IL-2 1946 is stand alone, but includes all the previous packs (IL-2:FB, AEP, PF and PE-2 and Sturmoviks over Manchuria) it's the only one you need. The only thing that it doesn't have is a hard copy of the manual, just a .pdf on the disk (which happens to be the PF one rather than an update for 1946!)

IL-2 Sturmovik is a multi-player WWII flight simulator that's been around for years. As a result it's pretty stable and bug free by now and still has a surprisingly large user base. It's age also means it works well on older computers. There are quite a few virtual squadrons flying out there and if we ever got any good at this we might even be able to fly against them as a squadron in our own right ;-)
There have been numerous add-ons over the seven years it's been around, but the last one is IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 this a compilation of all the previous versions. It spans East Europe through to the Pacific 1939-1946. I've just discovered one of the included maps is part of Burma which is really fun to fly over with all the jungle and valleys. It's about £10 in the UK.
Apart from the usual solo missions and head to head dogfights the game allows players to do cooperative missions, flying together against computer AI aircraft. You can also fly together as part of a campaign where your results are recorded and effect the battle map over an extended period of time.
Oh and it's got a great recording facility for making machinima films of the battles ;-)

A couple of good bits of machinima from another virtual squadron

The best bit of Machinima I've seen using IL-2, although it's a whopping great 600MB download. It's worth it though ;-)
