Royal Caledon Air Force (RCAF)

Altitude with Attitude: A Second Life® Group of the Independent State of Caledon

The following information is lifted directly and unedited from a notecard. It is intended for anyone who wishes to engage in military roleplay with the citizens of New Brunswick (NB).

Special thanks to Drake Moyer (the Duke of NB) for sending this to my office....

Rules of Engagement New Brunswick

All entering into combat in the sim of New Brunswick must adhere to these rules to insure fair and quality game play;

1. All combatants must wear a MMCS health meter even in a ship or aircraft. No other system is to be used. You must not engage anyone NOT wearing a meter and also treat them with respect. Nobody may teleport directly into battle, however this may happen by Brunswick residents that are unaware of the event happening.

2. Health meters must never be reset if you have been killed in battle, at least until the end of round or advised to do so by the organisers. It maybe advisable when killed to leave the sim and wait for the end of battle, this reduces lag effects.

3. All small arms and melee weapons are to be MMCS ready. Guns should be set to a 5 second reload per barrel/bullet. Thus a six shot revolver should be set on light damage per round and take 30 secs to reload all 6 shots. Free weapons and meter are available at the castle. Pistols using the 25% damage bullet and rifles the 50% damage bullet.

4. Role play language is to be confined to the issue of military orders and combat itself, there will be no slander/name calling, taking of prisoners (unless part of a planned game) and no role played arguments/court marshals.

5. All ships are to use the ICS combat system only (Note in Caledon only the Collingwood type vessels are permitted in combat), aircraft the TCS system (upto pre WW1) and artillery can be loaded with any mixture of MMCS/ICS and TCS depending on their need.

6. All combatants must NOT fly (unless in aircraft) at anytime during combat. Excessive jumping and any other form of unfair play will be frowned upon, repeat offenses leading to a ban.

7. Anyone sunk with a ship is deemed dead unless they escape prior to it sinking.

8. Nobody may multi rezz cannons and should anyone attacking New Brunswick need to deploy cannons they must have a fair method of delivery, such as unloaded from a ship. Given there is no land connection to Brunswick it would be better for attackers to use ships guns or drop a bomb from a plane (either of the 3 combat systems maybe used for this). Scaling ladders would be about the only object attackers may rezz and must clear all away when finished.

9. If advised to stop what you are doing at anytime by the sim owners, Arnya Hastings and Drake Moyer or their estate managers, Titanas Vella and Indigo Li please do so without delay. While we are fairly open to combat events we do like to know if one is going to happen so as not to upset anything else that maybe happening.

10. Steampunk weapons must be by prior approval only.

11. Breeches in any of the above ROE can and will lead to a ban from New Brunswick. A fair environment for combat activity is our goal, we will not welcome any trouble makers.

If you have any questions on these rules and or the approved weapons for use please contact Drake Moyer directly.

Unfortunately no VICE system.

Well Pilots,

What are your thoughts/feelings on this?

Not having ever heard of the MMCS I can't say anything either way. I know Drake has been involved with person to person combat in Antiquity for some time but perhaps we should look at some sort of collaborative effort if we want to play together. Perhaps a comparison of MMCS vs VICE can be looked at.

Though no. 10 has me quizzing. Caledon IS a steampunk realm. If New Brunswick aren't keen on having it in combat why did he move next to Caledon?

The acceptance of TCS is fine, although it is rather old SL Technology.

Regarding the steampunk question: Yes, that's my thought exactly!

I'd wager nearly all airships would be acceptable, but a few good hits and your feeling the strong pull of gravity.

We could still develop ground units for RP in NB as we're doing in the WW2 sims.

Wrt to ground units: shouldn't the Caledon Militia be involved?

Reply to This

If the Militia are involved they are a quite stealthy indeed

The militia is still deciding whether to drag it's long dormant feet from the clay or not. Having received an "official" correspondence from the Duke of Marlborough, I'm still pondering a response.
